Is Single Loop Of Cord Around The Fetal Neck A Cause For Concern?

I am 39 weeks 4 days pregnant. My due date is XXXXXXX 8th.
I got USG scan done at week 37 in which everything was fine. Specifically no cord around baby's neck was detected in that scan.
Since I have not delivered yet, my gynae asked me to get another scan done to check foetal well being. In today's scan, single loop cord was detected around baby's neck. I wish to know if this is possible within 2 weeks.
Also, does this mean that a c-sec will be needed?
Please advise.
Regards, XXXXXXX
Not an absolute indication for caesarean section
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Since the fetus moves in the uterus and the cord is around it, the cord can entangle any time around the fetal neck.
It is possible for the cord to loop around the fetal neck anytime in pregnancy.
Single loop of cord is not an absolute indication for caesarean section.
One can go for normal delivery in this situation, however if there is failure of decent of the fetus in the birth canal or slowing of fetal heart rate, the chances of which are increased in loop around fetal neck, then caesarean section is indicated.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
