Is Stent Placement Mandatory Post Heart Attack Recovery?
Last month my uncle suffered from hard chest pain. We have admitted him in heart hospital and got treated from there. He was admitted 5 days in ICU. After recovery to normal situation concerned doctor has advised for ‘PTCA+STANT TO LAD’.
I would like to ask is ‘PTCA+STENT TO LAD’ is mandatory for him or there is any other alternate option ? Someone from neighborhood advised that balance diet and precaution along with YOGA may help him to recover from this and any kind of operation is not required. Please suggest.
Stenton to lad along with medication is the best possible treatment forward
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I am Dr. Mody and I will be addressing your concern .
Your Uncle has what can be understand as a heart attack which involved the most important artery of his heart , The LAD which had closed down 100 %
As part of the treatment he was offered a clot bursting injection . This could establish say 10 % blood flow .
Angiography after the event still showed 90 % stenosis of the artery .
Coming to your query ?
Scientifically speaking Opening up Lad by putting a Stent is the best option .
He is non Diabetic and has block in single artery so Stenting in the best option and he will do well .
His heart function has come down to 25 % because of the attack and he is just 50 years old . So opening up a flow limiting lesion gives him maximum chances of recovery .
With Stenton he should continue the medicine Given on discharge.
Yoga and other means are part of lifestyle which may prevent blockages but such significant one should be treated scientifically.
A weak heart for life would have his own demerits and restrain his quality of life in future .
Do trust you doctor and You may take more opinion but Treat him with the best possible treatment available.
Hopefully I could help .
Regards Dr. Mody
