Brief Answer:
This is not normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This is not normal for the second week following tonsillectomy, especially in young children.

2. If your daughter is older, more discomfort is expected after extensive surgery due to more fibrosis in chronic tonsillitis.

3. Such discomfort while eating and drinking signifies active inflammation and infection.Inform the surgeon. Get her throat examined again. Check for signs of inglammation, secondary infection or bleeding. Admit for intravenous medication if required.

4. I routiney see a patient post tonsillectomy after one week and rarely after the second week.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
