Is Swimming Advisable After Inguinal Hernia Repair Surgery?
2. After returning to work because of my working hours is a long time to stand. Whether to fight for time to sit low rest. To avoid the pressure caused by complex abdominal cavity?

Hi and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your query.
1. If there was open repair with MESH reinforcement then you can do these activities and there is no fear of relapse. Pain depends on degree of activitity but in most cases there is no significant pain after 10 days postoperatively.
2. YOu can stand or sit or walk, but you should rest after 30-60min of standing for several minutes if you can. It is most important to avoid activities such as weight lifting, push ups and exercises that involve abdominal muscles. Running should also be avoided for 4 weeks after surgery.
Also, if you cough or sneeze, you should just hold pressure with hands on hernia sites for few seconds.
Wish you good health. Regards
1. I am worried that there will be water pressure inside the pool, when swimming water pressure will cause pressure on my abdominal cavity?
2. In addition, I would like to ask questions about artificial fiber mesh. After six weeks the artificial fiber mesh will be fibrous, strengthening the strength of the place. As far as I know, the mesh will have about 20% shrink. Then I would like to ask when the mesh position after fibrosis and mesh shrink. Will it affect the strength of the tissue ingrowth?
ps: my repair with 3d XXXXXXX light mesh

Hi and welcome to HCM.
1. Some significant pressures may be present only if you dive in deeper depths. But also, this would be pressure from the outside on abdominal wall and this would not be provoking factor for inguinal hernias since problematic may be increased intraabdominal pressure as seen in ascites, excessive coughing, obesity etc.
2.Mesh fibrosis is most important factor in hernia management and it happens from 4-8 week. Shrinkage happens simultaneously as fibrosis and usually is not larger than 20%. We, always use larger MESH than necessary because of this shrink. It means that we cover hernia orifice but also some 3-4cm across the edges of hernia.
So you dont need to be worried about tissue strength.
