Is Testosterone Level Of 260 A Cause For Concern?
Question: My testosterone level is 260 and my age is 28 years, should I be worried? I have gynaecomastia also.
Brief Answer:
From the reports, there is nothing to get worried.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding to your concern i can inform you that there is nothing to get worried about.
The testosterone level is within the normal ranges and prolactin level that may cause some times gynecomastia and low testosterone levels is within the normal ranges.
I would suggest to check the thyroid hormones too (TSH, FT4) if they result to be within the normal ranges than it is idiopathic gynecomastia with only estethic problems
It will be a pleasure to help you further if you still have queries.
Kind regards,
dr.Mirjeta

Hello Doctor,
Thanks for your reply. Basically I asked this question because I have several symptoms such as ,
1. Lack of spontaneous/morning erections
2. Lack of sex drive
3. lack of concentration
Also I have read at many places although my testosterone level is in normal ranges but at my age the level should be above 350, as after 30 years of age the level starts declining at steady state. The testosterone level I have is of age of 50 year old.
Regards

Welcome back!
You are right, the total testosterone level for your age is low, but you have checked the free testosterone level.
Usually, bioavailable and free testosterone levels parallel the total testosterone levels. However, a number of conditions and medications are known to increase or decrease the SHBG (SHBG / Sex Hormone Binding Globulin [SHBG], Serum) concentration, which may cause total testosterone concentration to change without necessarily influencing the bioavailable or free testosterone concentration.
As you report to have symptoms of low testosterone level, you may check SHBG level. I still recommend to check thyroid hormones also. An underactive thyroid may cause low SHBG and low total testosterone as a result.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
