Is Transmission Of HIV Or Hepatitis Possible After A Utheral Dilation?

Brief Answer:
Yes there is trauma.
Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!
Yes definitely there is trauma during dilation on the urethra causing bleeding and tearing in the lining of the urethra which is friable.
If the equipment was cleaned and sterilized properly then chances of getting HIV and any blood borne diseases would be nil.

And if it wasn't properly cleaned can there be a chance for exposure
Brief Answer:
yes theoretically transmission is possible.
Detailed Answer:
In theory yes there is a chance of transmission of HIV or any blood borne disease for any break in the skin and blood to blood transfer. Although the chances of that happening is very slim and there are no reported cases of HIV transmission due to urethral dilation procedure. To rest your mind i would suggest getting an HIV examination now then three months from now so we will know when you got it since there is a window period of 2-3 months for HIV that will not show up in the blood examinations

How long can HIV survive on a surgical tool
Brief Answer:
7 days in room temperature.
Detailed Answer:
It is important to bear in mind that whilst HIV may live for some time outside the body, HIV transmission has not been reported as a consequence of contact with spillages of blood, semen or other body fluids.
HIV have been shown to have some activity in spilled or dried blood up to 7 days at room temp. HIV doesn't survive if sterilization has been done since it couldn't survive in temperature above 60 Celsius.

Also I had a cytology where the camera is inserted to check bladder does this tear skin in the bladder or urethra and is it inserted in urethra or bladder not sure
Brief Answer:
Yes may cause microabrasions.
Detailed Answer:
Yes to do a cystoscopy to check the camera(endoscope/cystoscope) will have to be inserted in the urtehra to reach the urinary bladder. This can also cause microabrasions or minimal trauma due to instrumentation.
I am pretty sure your urologist sterilized the scopes before inserting it to your body since it is the standard practice in our profession.

Brief Answer:
Yes can be done in cystoscopy.

I had the urethral dilation 4 days ago and I feel the urge to urinate more now then before the procedure was done the reason I had the procedure was due to blood in urine without infection is this normal or did dr misdiagnosed me or was the procedure done wrong
Brief Answer:
I think urethral dilation is indicated.
Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!
Blood in the urine can be caused by meatal stenosis that is why your doctor did the urethral dilation. You will still feel urgency and frequency because of the instrumentation done plus you may have UTI now. Did the doctor prescribe antibiotics for UTI prophylaxis after the procedure?

Yes I'm taking antibiotics he gave me 30 for 2 a day
Brief Answer:
Drink plenty of fluids and continue abx.
Detailed Answer:
That's good that you are on a prophylactic antibiotic which is standard practice after a cystoscopy and dilation.
The urinary symptoms that you are suffering from now would be gone after a week or so. If the urinary frequency and urgency persists then I would suggest getting a urinalysis to rule out secondary infection from the instrumentation. At this point in time urinary symptoms after cystoscopy and dilation is almost universal and would go in time as the body heals itself.
My advise drink liberal amounts of fluids and finish the antibiotics your doctor gave.

Thank you for answering me I suffer my anxiety so I feel very anxious about everything right now when u mentioned secondary infection what does that actually mean also as HIV I know it's a slim chance but I'm very paranoid when is a good time to get tested as I rather be safe then sorry as I have a family
Brief Answer:
Get tested now then 3 months after.
Detailed Answer:
You are very welcome to ask more questions and I hope I have been able to alleviate some of your worries.
It would be good to get HIV test now then 3 months from now just to be sure that you are not infected. But like I said chances of getting HIV from instruments would be almost nil.
For secondary infection, I meant UTI from the cystoscopy and instrumentation done to you. This is uncommon but could happen and would need a stronger antibiotic from the prophylaxis antibiotic given to you. We would know this if your urinary symptoms persists and repeat urinalysis after 2-3 weeks would contain bacteria and Pus cells.

I'm sorry to sound crazy I never had a procedure where surgical instruments are used but in your opinion would you recommend I get a HIV test as a necessity or as a piece of mind I know it's standard to sterilized but what are the chances the some drs don't
Other question how long does HIV take to show in test
Other question how long does HIV take to show in test
Brief Answer:
almost all sterlize their instruments prior to use
Detailed Answer:
I think your question is fairly difficult to answer but I believe that all of us our trained to sterilize our instruments before using it to our patients so I think there is a pretty good chance that your doctor sterilized his instruments and that you have no need to do a HIV test. But to rest your mind you can always get a HIV test. I takes around 3 months before HIV can be reliably detected in the blood.
