Question: Hi, This is regarding my grandfather who is 85 years old. He is unconscious from the past 4 days. His urine is completely stopped. We have admitted him into hospital. Nephrologist informed us that his Kidneys are not working. He also had paralysis. Initially his Sr creatinine level is 4.7 mg/dl but now I believe its coming down. His BP is fluctuating between 160/100 to 130/80. His brain CT shows impression of Leukoariasis. My question is how serious is his health condition. Doctors are advising us to keep him in ICU for few days but we would like to understand how serious is his health condition based on that if needed we would like to move him to other cities if it can be cured.

Brief Answer:
All his problems are treatable.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted the symptoms of your grandfather. All his three problems are treatable.

1. Kidney problem- creatinine of 4.5 can be managed with medicines and fluids. Most often dialysis is not needed.

2. High BP- Can be treated with good BP lowering medicines.

3. Leukoariasis means decreased blood supply to brain- which can also be treated with medicines.

So, in conclusion, in view of his age and multiple medical problems, his case is serious. However, they can be well treated in a good hospital.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
