Newborn Has Unfused Tongue. What Is Hypoglossia? Known Treatments?

Thanks for the query
Hypoglossia also termed as small tongue, is an extremely rare condition noticed in newborn and it is usually seen as one of the component of "Hypoglossia-hypodactyly syndrome". Till now around 30 cases have been reported in the world literature.
Hypoglossia-hypodactyly syndrome is characterized by a small or hypoplastic mandible, gingival abnormalities, small sized tongue (hypoglossia) and variable degree of absence of the digits and limbs (hypodactyly).
Management includes a battery of radiological investigations (x-ray, CTscan with 3D reconstructed films) and surgical intervention. The surgery is performed in various stages at different ages. Surgical intervention includes bone lengthening for the midline mandibular hypoplasia and orthodontic treatment with dental implants.
Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.
