Ovarian Ultrasound Showed Follicular Cyst, Mural-based Nodule. Is This Related To Cancer?
Question: Hello Dr.
My wife just got her ovary ultrasound report, here is the description:
" there are now multiple simple follicular cyst left ovary at least 7 in number.
all are under 1cm.
one which measures 0.84 cm and contains a 0.5 X 0.3 cm mural based
nodule. follow-up recommended.
Conclusion: Complex cyst of the left ovary. small but with mural based
nodule is now identified"
1. what is mural nodule means here? Is this anything related to tumer or
cancer?
2. what is Complex cyst with mural nodule?
3. what would the 7 simple follicular cyst do?
Can they be ignore? not need to worry?
or it is also related to the complex one?
4. What are the following steps we should do?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
1. Mural nodule means thickened tissue of the cyst. It may be related to tumor (which may mean both benign cyst and cancer)
2. Complex cyst means the one which contains more than one cyst with thickened area/s.
3. Simple follicular cysts may cause some problems like torsion, rupture, infection etc.
They should be further investigated, to make sure that they are not cancer by CA-125 & CT scan etc.
4. as stated above.
With warm regards
