Pregnant. Having Fever And Pain In Leg. Diagnosed With UTI. Is It Safe To Take Antibiotic?
Question: Hello, I am 29 years old and my fever went up to 38.5 yesterday evening. I also had terrible pain in my legs. I went to ER and they checked the baby through US and said everything is fine except for quickened heartbeat (188 bmp). There was nothing wrong on my urine, but the blood test showed that WBC amounts 18.2 and EST is 18. They prescribed antibiotics (Augmentin) even though they were not clear about the diagnosis, but said that it might be take antibiotics? I am concerned about taking medications during pregnancy.
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your WBC count & ESR level are increased, it means you are having infection either in blood or urine & for that you would have to take antibiotic like Augmentin that is safe in pregnancy.
To rule out cause of infection, get your urine culture sensitivity & blood culture sensitivity done.
Heart rate of fetus is increased due to maternal fever, so nothing to worry about it.
