Pregnant And Having Hole In Heart. Will It Be A Problem To Have Second Child After Surgery?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Sep 2013
Question: Hello,
During my wife pregnancy (at time of labor pain), doctor discover that she(wife) has hole in heart (it was from child birth). By the way delivery (with C section) carried normally. Child & mother both are normal.
At the time of cardiac diagnosis, cardiac surgeon suggest to have open heart surgery after 6 months .
Now its 2 yrs over without surgery and she is doing normal.
Shall we undergo with surgery?
We want one more child, can we go ahead without surgery?
If we undergo surgery(before second child), Is there any problem with second pregnancy?
Since she is doing perfectly normal, does surgery damage her physical/mental health?

Brief Answer:
please provide more details....

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
The decision of operation in case if "hole in heart " depends upon the site & size of hole, other associated abnormalities on ECHO (cardiac ultrasound), the current symptoms of patient and at times ECG abnormalities. The problems she is likely to face in future again depends upon the details about the "hole". I would request you to provide all these details.
1. What is the exact site and size of hole and characteristics of flow across it. Please also tell the size of various chambers and other finding on ECHO. If feasible please upload her all ECHO reports through the facility on this page. That would be best to understand her lesion.
2. If feasible please upload a scanned copy of her ECG film.
3. What are her current symptoms/ problems /trouble. If she feels breathless on walking? How far she can walk without being breathless?
What happens When she uses stairs? Does she get short of breath? When?
Does she has any swelling of feet? or she ever had loss of consciousness? Does she has blue nail?
Please mention all these details so that I can explain you the condition in detail.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder Singh
