Suggest Treatment For Pain, Swelling And Difficulty In Walking After Artery Leg Bypass
My Dad had artery leg bypass surgery about 5 years ago. He still has pain, swelling and trouble walking. He thinks that the Dr. has done all he can do for his poor circulation and diabetes. I just really think there is more we can do??? Thank you, Robin

I am sorry your father is going through this. Unfortunately with peripheral artery disease (poor circulation in the leg arteries), bypass is a solution that works for a while before another blockage develops.
- I would advice him to undergo an angiogram to assess for fresh clots
- Supervised exercise
- Healthy diet and he must quit smoking if he does
- He should visit his PCP to ensure that his diabetic medication is optimized. He can also ask about certain drugs that help prevent the blockages from growing (eg. Cilastozol).
