Suggest Treatment For Pain, Swelling And Difficulty In Walking After Artery Leg Bypass
My Dad had artery leg bypass surgery about 5 years ago. He still has pain, swelling and trouble walking. He thinks that the Dr. has done all he can do for his poor circulation and diabetes. I just really think there is more we can do??? Thank you, Robin
I am sorry your father is going through this. Unfortunately with peripheral artery disease (poor circulation in the leg arteries), bypass is a solution that works for a while before another blockage develops. - I would advice him to undergo an angiogram to assess for fresh clots - Supervised exercise - Healthy diet and he must quit smoking if he does - He should visit his PCP to ensure that his diabetic medication is optimized. He can also ask about certain drugs that help prevent the blockages from growing (eg. Cilastozol).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
