Pregnant, Dermoid Cyst In Ovary. Scared To Remove Cyst By Laparoscopic Surgery As It Might Affect Baby
Question: Good Morning,
i have Dermoid cyst in my left ovary, and im pregnant, now started 8th month. Our regular chekup doctor suggested to remove cyst now with laproscopic surgery, but we are scared as the surgery might effect the baby. we took the scan on july 17th, and found that there is a cyst in the ovary, cyst size : 5.3 cm, then again we did scan on Aug 22nd to check the size of the cyst, cyst size did not increase it is still 5.3 cm. Kindly suggest a way to remove the cyst or how would i go about this, will it effect my body in future, if i delay in removing it?
Thanks & Regards,

Hi AAAA
Thanks for the query.
Dermoid cysts need removal by surgery. In your case it is a matter of delay of 2 months. In my opinion if your doctor is experienced in laparoscopic surgeries, you should consider her decision of removing it. Dermoid cysts are usually benign i.e non cancerous but sometimes if problematic, one may require chemotherapy.
Delaying a surgery for long is not good alternative. You can discuss (with your Gynaecologist) the option of caesarean section near your expected date with removal of dermoid in same sitting.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Best wishes

Thank you for your suggestion Dr. XXXXXXX
We have taken second opinion from one of the Gynaecologist, she informed that we can take the cyst at the time of Delivery, by doing Caesarean. My expected delivery is Nov 17th. I just want to know Is it ok if i go for normal delivery, and then remove the cyst with laproscopic surgery.
Kindly Suggest

Hi,
Waiting for vaginal delivery and then removing it by laparoscopy is a waste of time. I prefer caesarean section and dermoid cyst removal in the same sitting. Your EDD is 17 Nov, so you can plan c-sect in Oct end / Nov 1st week.
Hope this helps you.
