Question: Hi, I have this weird pulsing sensation on the left side of my chest. It is not painfull, it just XXXXXXX with my heart beat. Smoked for 15 years untill I quit 13 months ago. If Im doing something I don't notice it. If I'm still I notice it. Any thoughts? Had x rays,Heart stress. Fine, XXXXXXX test says even though I'm 34 I have the lungs of a 60 year old. That.made me quit. I had chest pain in the past...all tests done. Blood work everything. It's ok. I have seen a Doctor here about it. All tests done again. ( My lung function has improved ) They cant find anything. It's just throbbing on my left side....when Im still or trying to sleep. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I am happy that all the tests came out with nothing significant. I also appreciate the fact that you had quit smoking now and your lungs would be recovering. It takes another 5 years for you to get back the same vital capacity for the lungs as that of a person who never smoked. In this process you will have few uncomfortable feeling which are not worrisome.

The facts are in your favor that you are improving. No tests had proven anything wrong. Pulsatile feeling does not mean anything for any organic disorder. You do not have this feeling when you are submerged into the daily routine. You will have this when you sit alone, sleep at night.

Mind and body go together I hope you agree with it. Though when the body has healed the mind takes some time to reset. I think you are going through this phase currently. To take away this feeling engage in positive attitude and physical exercise which improves lung function and better feeling as well. Go for necessary tests once a year to check everything is alright.

All the best and take care.
