Question: can i cause a retinal detachment by blowing my nose too hard , if i have a bad cold and blow my nose i feel pressure in the eye , can this cause serious eye injury like a tear or retinal detachment

The common causes of retinal detachment include
1. Age-induced posterior vitreous detachment
2. Bleeding in or under the retina
3. Extreme nearsightedness
4. Eye injury
5. Trauma to the face or head
There are cases where, retinal detachment has been documented after forceful blowing of nose. Normal blowing of nose and sneezing is rarely ever associated with retinal detachment. yes, if there is a partial retinal detachment, any pressure such as sneezing or blowing of nose will aggravate the condition.
Your symptoms of pressure in eye when blowing nose needs further evaluation.
Get a fundus evaluation to make sure your retinal is intact.

in your experience/knowledge have there been many cases of detachment from , as you say , forceful blowing of the nose and would this have to be prolonged and extremely forceful to bring about such an outcome , my query arises as sometimes with a heavy cold when one blows the nose to clear it there can be a feeling of pressure from the tear duct area of the eye hence i was wondering if it is XXXXXXX

Pressure in eye can occur commonly when you forcefully blow your nose. Such pressure can occur in and around the eyes and can get transmitted there due to proximity to nasal sinuses.
However, in practice, Retinal Detachment (RD) is not commonly observed in such situations. Although it can occur, it is not a common cause.
If there is already an underlying risk factor such as diabetic retinopathy or trauma, such blowing can increase the chances of RD.
