Question: Hello, I am 49yr. Old female height 5'4 weight 121lbs. I haven't had a menstrual cycle in 8 months. Last month I weighed 127lbs. Last week I weighed 116lbs. Unexplained weight loss concerns me. I have bloated stomach for a month just 2 days I now have clear vaginal discharge, hot flashes, light headed, chest pain off and on and lower back pressure/ache off and on and feet and ankle swelling. Should I be worried or is this related to peri menopause/menopause?
Brief Answer:
Needs investigations.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A weight loss of 11 pounds in last 1 month is a matter of concern. It is not always associated with a serious problem but the possibilities need to be ruled out.
Chronic infections, depression, diabetes, metabolic disorders, hormonal disturbances, malignancy, HIV, etc needs to be ruled out.
The absence of periods may be due to the weight loss or peri- menopausal changes.
You need to see your primary physician who will work with you to determine what's causing the weight loss and the best way to treat the problem. You may need a special diet to prevent further weight loss or to regain lost pounds.
In case no pathology is found then the problems can be related to menopause.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
