Question: I am scared to death of the tetanus vaccine. I have had all a total of 6 or 7 shots so I cannot explain why. My last one was 13 years ago. Why is it that in XXXXXXX if you have had at least 5 it supposed to give you life long immunity but in XXXXXXX they say we need a booster every 10 years???
Brief Answer:
Better to take to maintain the level of antibodies
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you are scared and already have taken 6 to 7 shots, you may not take a tetanus shot.
You are 43 and by this time must have been well guarded against tetanus.
Booster dose is given to add-on the immunity against tetanus.
With the advent of clean , healthy environment, no dust , no dirt one can really forget about it and if there is no chance of a skin-opening injury.
If there is no guarantee of these thing , it is better to take a booster shot as it is known that the protective antibody levels may fall. It is already 13 years, So have one shot and be assured for further 10 years.
If someone in XXXXXXX is saying so , it is wrong.
Once you are immunized well the immunity is going to be life-long, but the booster is needed to keep high enough levels of antibodies in view of unexpected injuries, accidents, surgeries and so on.
regards,
I do not really understand your answer. Maybe its sarcasm and its going right over my head...

Brief Answer:
Sorry if I could not reach you correctly
Detailed Answer:
I am really sorry if I could not reach you correctly.
Booster dose is needed to keep the required amount of antibodies circulating in the body so that in any event of inadvertent cuts and wound, you have sufficient resistance power to fight against Tetanus. Tetanus is a serious disease which can thus be prevented by having a booster dose.
Since you have taken 6 to 7 injections of tetanus and your age is 43 as mentioned here, You are already well immunized. But it is advisable to have one booster every 10 years to keep the antibody levels ready during untoward incidences. You had the last one 13 years hence it is advisable to have one booster dose for maintenance of enough antibodies working against Tetanus.
I am unable to understand your fears for this vaccine. If the fear is severe and affecting you, you may discuss with a clinical psychologist. He/she will help you get used to vaccines.
I hope I could explain this properly. Please feel free to ask more if you have further queries.
