Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us. I am trying to solve your problem.

According to your history, you are suffering from irregular menstrual cycle along with lower UTI) which causes burning sensation during urination.

1) Possible reasons for irregular period are ovarian cyst or PCOD (most common), uterine pathology, stress/ anxiety/ emotional upset, hormonal imbalance, irregular eating habit, thyroid problem (hypothyroid state), psychological factors, overweight or extreme weight loss etc.

It is very common to get withdrawal bleeding (similar to period) following taking i-pill. It also can cause earlier or delayed period due to hormonal imbalance.

The possibilities can be narrowed by means of several tests such as Ultrasound (USG) lower abdomen, complete hormone assay (estrogen/ progesterone & LH/FSH etc ), blood sugar & prolactin level, thyroid profile, endometrial biopsy etc.

Complete treatment depends upon underlying causative factor. Therefore, you need to consult with your gynecologist for proper guidance through investigations & medication after a complete physical examination.

2) In case of UTI, you need to undergo one urine examination- routine/ microscopy/ culture to rule out causative pathogens. Taking proper antibiotic therapy (like norfloxacin etc) with urine alkaliser may get relief from above condition. In addition, you must follow certain precautionary measures like a) drink plenty of water (3 liter plus) b) maintain genital hygiene properly & practice protected sex with using condom c) taking cranberry juice is quite helpful d) empty bladder in time & don't pressurize it e) try to urinate & proper cleaning of private area before and after each sexual intercourse.

Do the following things for healthy life style:

1) Take healthy diet with vitamin & iron supplements.
2) Try to avoid stress/ tension by yoga/deep breathing regularly (20-30 times).
3) Control body weight by regular physical exercise by running/ jogging/ treadmill.
4) Drink more water & eat more vegetables. Avoid salty/ spicy/ fatty food stuffs.
5) Maintain personal hygiene & need proper sleeping with complete relaxation.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Regards,
Dr Soumen.
