Suggest Hib Vaccination Schedule For Infants
HOWEVER, we are in the UK now and the NHS nurse did not see in her vaccination book that she had had these previous vaccinations and gave her a 4th one today at 12 months (which in Thailand should have been at 18mths!)
I have 2 questions:
1. Is this safe and not over exposing her to the disease/vaccination?
2. When she gets back to Thailand, she needs her other vaccinations which would normally INCORPORATE HIB again, all in one vaccination, is that safe or should we try and have that excluded from her next set of vaccinations?
Thx

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query and I can understand your concern regarding your baby.
You don't need to worry.
The Hib vaccine is usually given in 4 doses at 2 months,4 months, 6 months and the last dose between 12-15 months.
This is safe and it won't cause any problem for your baby. The last dose is a booster shot and now your baby is protected against H.influenzae Type B.
The vaccine is safe. The most common side effects include soreness, swelling, or redness at the site of the injection. There are no serious side effects.
Since the Hib vaccine contains only the bacterium coating ,which indices the immune system to produce antibodies against this bacterium. It doesn't contain the bacterium itself ,so it cannot cause Hib infection.
Your baby has received the last dose of the vaccine ,so it is not necessary to get another in Thailand. You should explain that to the medical personal in Thailand and they won't give her another shot of Hib vaccine.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.I would be happy to answer.
I wish you and your baby all the best.
