Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Cyclizine
I am desperately in need of help. I have a long term chronic condition - facet joint disease- and after hospital admissions, treatments and referral to a pain specialist was prescribed dipipanone/cyclizine which, by taking half a tablet 3 times a day i have been able to live a normal life, go back to work etc. Before xmas the drug became 'out of stock' and I have been prescribed Butrans patches- initially 5mg, then 10mg. It doesn't help at all- by mid-day I have 'knives in the groin' and by the afternoon pain is shooting down my legs to my toes. I added an extra patch- so now have 15mg of Butrans but they seem to do nothing. I don't understand why they don't work. I am seeing my GP tomorrow and think she will be annoyed when I say this but I feel like crying because I cannot cope with this incessant pain. Can you recommend something that might work please?
Many other options can be used to decrease the pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to the HCM.
Dear I can understand your concern.Since facet joint pain some times really becomes unbearable and it is not your mistake that a doctor would be annoyed of it.
Well facet joint is although an inflammatory spine joints pain and there are many options to decrease the pain and reduce the severe spells.
In case if opioids are not working then other options which can work are,
1.Physiotherapy ( you may also discuss about right posture measures like how to sit while driving the car,or while standing and sleeping .Because these measures also may help to reduce the pain along with taking medicines.
2.Heat therapy like hot showers ,heat wraps .
3.Chiropractotherapy...you may get opinion from professional chiropractic for pain relief. It may also help decrease the usage of pain killer medicines.
4.Since you have been already taking very heavy pain killers , still NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) like tab. ibuprofen and tab. celebrex can be the options to reduce this type of pain.
5.In the last if pain is really disabling and affecting daily life works then a neurosurgeon opinion can be the option to discuss about the rhizotomy. It is a surgical process in which surgeon may use tip freezing or electrified hot probe process to destroy those tiny nerve endings which are causing the pain.
Hopefully my answer will be helpfull, and in case you need more help, please let me know.
Best regards,
Dr.Maheshwari
There are other suitable opiate options.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thankyou for asking again.
Dear if Butran patches do not work and dipipanone is not available then morphine has equal analegesic potency as of dipipanone .Though it can also cause nausea and vomiting but an anti emetic metoclopramide can be taken with it,also it has less side effects than cyclizine.
In case if morphine is not tolerated then oxycodone is also a good option.
Other analgesics with more or less equal potency can be used are methadone and injectable pentazocine .
You may discuss these other options with your treating doctor and may follow accordingly.
Wish you best of health.
