Suggest Alternative Medication For Requip

Question: I have been treated in the past for RLS, it lessened for some time, but is now back with a vengence. I just had my well check for this year, iron, potassium etc are all normal.. I do exercise almost daily, I dont drink caffeine... yet it still came back. I am luck if I can get 1-2 hours of sleep per night. I want to ask my doctor for a medication to help me calm down the RLS... but I dont want to a narcotic that will zonk me out. I took Requip 1.5 mg in the past, is this still available? or are there more modern alternatives? I just want to be informed when I discuss this with my doctor.
Brief Answer:
Requip is still first line treatment.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I am sorry your symptoms have returned.
Since the symptoms really affect your quality of life I believe medication is necessary as well.
There are several alternatives available. There are two main first line groups, one is the dopaminergic agents, to which Requip (Ropinirole) belongs along with others like Pramipexole or Rotigotine. The other group are anticonvulsants such as Pregabalin or Gabapentin.
So Requip would still make an excellent choice.
