Suggest Alternative Treatment For Low Level Fistula Apart From Surgery
Question: Dear Sir/Madam
I have crohn's disease and recently suffering from fistula.
However the MRI report reveals it is "Low type of intersphincteric fistula. No secondary tract or horse-shoe or supralevator extension".
Now I have few questions in this regard.
1. Is operation the only option or is there any alternative treatment available for such low type fistula ?
2. Can it be cured by antibiotic course ?
3. Which type of operation is generally performed for this low type fistula ?
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly reply with answers.
Thanking You

Brief Answer:
Surgery is the only definitive treatment for this condition.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Surgery is the only definitive treatment for this condition.
It is a small operation.Ligation of fistula tract is the best option. It also preserves anal sphincter action.
Fistulotomy is also practiced by some surgeons in which fistula is simply opened up and allow to heal naturally but it may compromise sphincter action in some cases,so ligation is the best option.
It is not possible to treat this condition only by antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thanks for your reply.
As you have suggested for surgery, I would like to ask few more questions.
1. Will this Ligation of fistula tract (Lift Technique) or even Fistulotomy, include local anaesthetic or full anaesthetic ?
2. I read a new technique called T-banding, can it be of any help instead of surgery ?
3. After that surgery how long will it take to recover fully ?
4. Since I have chron's disease, is there any chance for fistula to reoccur even after surgery ?
Thanking You
