Question: Dosage for alcohol detox. I have a clinician who is traveling . Prescribed 30 1 mg. ativan

Any detox should only be undertaken under the direct supervision of a physician in a monitored environment where your vital signs can be closely watched.
Typically, high-dose IV valium is used based on a CIWA protocol. Alternatively, Ativan 2mg can be used. Ativan is typically given in the following doses: 2mg every 15 minutes for a systolic blood pressure >150, diastolic blood pressure >100, heart rate >100, tremor, or sweating. This is the only way to avoid withdrawal and the possibly fatal complications.
