Suggest Dosage For Marvelon Pills
I live in KSA and wanted an after pill immediately. The pharmacy here prescribed Marvelon pills. But after reading the leaflet I realize it is Contraceptive pill. Please guide me as to how to use it as an emergency pill.
Thanks in advance
4 + 4 pills to be taken as directed below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
MARVELON is a regular combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP) which contains ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel as active ingredients.
It is NOT an emergency pill but can be used for that purpose also when no other alternative pill is available in your local area.
Two doses are taken. First dose - 4 pills within first 24hrs of unprotected sex and Second dose - another 4 pills after 12 hrs of first dose. It will give more than 95% protection against unwanted pregnancy.
You will get a withdrawal bleeding within 5 to 7 days due to effect of the pill. Maintain genital hygiene properly.
Hope I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.

Fertile days are from 24th Feb to 4th March.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up query.
1) According to your last period date (10th Feb), your exact ovulation day was on 28th Feb and fertile days are from 24th Feb to 4th March.
2) It is better to AVOID sexual intercourse during fertile period to eliminate minimal chance of pregnancy (while you are NOT on regular pill). Practice safe sex.
Hope, it is helpful for your information. Good luck and take care.
Next period may be delayed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for additional query.
After taking MARVELON pills (as directed), you will get a withdrawal bleeding (similar to period) within 5-7 days, which may correspond with your upcoming due date.
However, your next period date may alter due to hormonal imbalance and stress. It may vary from 1 to 2 weeks. You must undergo one home pregnancy test if your period delays more than 1 week.
Hope, I have answered your query to clear doubt. Good luck.
This is what i understand:
There may be withdrawal bleeding within 5-7 days.
My cycle which is due on 12th March 2016, may be delayed by 1-2 weeks.
Please confirm.
Thanks in advance
Details are clarified.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your response.
Yes. Almost, you are able to understand.
If you get withdrawal bleeding (same like period) before 12th March (due date), then you DON'T get your regular period on expected date (may be delayed for 1-2 weeks or more).
First day of withdrawal bleeding will be considered as D1 for next cycle if you don't get your actual period in this month. Do home pregnancy test if your due date exceeds more than 1 week. It helps to clear doubt.
Hope, I have clarified the thing and easy to understand for you. Good luck.
Hopefully this is my last query.
I will be bleeding two times in the month of March? One is withdrawal bleeding and the other one is the actual period.
How will I differentiate between both.
sorry for the trouble caused
You will get withdrawal bleeding mostly.
Detailed Answer:
Generally, you will NOT get actual period in this month if you get withdrawal bleeding within 5-7 days, which may correspond with your regular period date.
Few women may get 2nd time bleeding or irregular spotting (like period) following her withdrawal bleeding due to hormonal imbalance. However, it also varies from women to women.
Last thing, you can't differentiate withdrawal bleeding (occurs due to effect of pill) and natural period (without pill). Almost same thing. Those terms are used on the basis of pill intake.
Practice safe sex in future and maintain genital hygiene.
Take care.
Best regards.
So in the above message of next cycle meant the one in April, so I shall keep a tab on that.
