Suggest Dosage For Praziquantel
Question: what is the adult dosage for a hemodyalisis patientweighing 77 kg to treat blood flukes with praziquantel
Brief Answer:
no adjustment is required for hemodialysis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
the dosage of praziquantel has nothing to do with the renal function. The usual dosage as in a healthy adult would be required, unless you also have liver problems. The usual dosage ranges between 60 and 75 mg per Kg of body weight (divided in 3 doses) but for some pathogens it can be substantially lower (5-10mg/Kg). For liver or intestinal flukes it's 75mg/Kg divided in 3 doses for 1 day. So it's about 5775mg in total, that is 1925mg three times in one day.
Kind Regards!
