Suggest Dosage For Prednisolone
Question: Nephrotic syndrome-My son (Age: 2 year 4 months. Weight- 11 kg before two weeks and now 11.8 kg) He achieved complete remission (Urine protein albumin-Nil & No Edema) from the 5th week of Steroid treatment with Prednisolone 25 mg/day.
After completing 6 week of high dosage of Prednisolone 25 mg/daily treatment, the doctor reduced to Prednisolone 20mg for two consecutive days and further reduced to 15 mg alternate days for another 6 weeks. From 1st Dec 2015, we have started giving low dosage of Prednisolone 15 mg alternate days. Now his urine protein level is showing 1+. Kindly advise whether this is a replace or is it normal during the low dose steroid treatment?

Brief Answer:
Continue with 15mg on alternate day for next 6 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Sometimes during the course of steroid treatment, a child with nephrotic syndrome can show urine protein 1+/2+. It's fine. There is no need for change in regimen unless and until urine protein remains 3+/4+ on three or more consecutive days.
Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
