Suggest Emergency Contraception After Intercourse Post Discontinuation Of Mononessa

Question: I'm not on any birth control. I had unprotected sex and I have some mononessa that I was on earlier this year, before my endometrial ablation. Do I need emergency contraception? If so, how many pills & when of the mononessa should I take? I see 2 very different scenarios online, and I want to get it right.
Brief Answer:
You do need emergency contraception after ablation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
There have been reported cases of pregnancy after endometrial ablation therefore contraception is recommended for reproductive age women. The regimen used with combined oral contraceptives is 3 pills of mononessa taken every 12 hours in two doses (6 pills)! you will be nauseous while you take it and may spot a few days after.
I hope this information was helpful and that I adequately answered your question. best wishes, Dr. Brown

I don't get periods anymore since the endometrial ablation. Should I take a pregnancy test & if so, when?
Brief Answer:
You should do a pregnancy test in about 4 weeks from unprotected sex
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Your pregnancy risk is still very low if you are amennorrheic after your ablation, and given your age and if you used emergency contraception I doubt you have anything to worry about. But you can make sure by doing an urine pregnancy test 4 weeks from the time you were at risk.

I just vomited just over an hour after taking the 2nd dose of 3 mononessa tablets. Do i need to take more or do anything further? Btw, i'm grateful for this service and your opinion. I really appreciate it.
Brief Answer:
There are EC kits you can buy that are better tolerated
Detailed Answer:
If you can't hold down the pills at that dose, there are other emergency contraceptives you can buy without a prescription. In the U.S. the most popular one is Plan B. There are others also- they contain a different hormone which will not make you sick. if you can't do that I recommend trying to take the other 3 pills in 12 hours as best you can. Good luck and sorry you didn't react well to the medicine
