The recommended dose of acyclovir in uncomplicated Herpes Zoster is 800mg orally 5 times a day for 7 to 10 days.
If you are in pain , pain killers may be taken along with Acyclovir which should be started as early as possible. It may not work if not started within 3 days of the onset of illness.
