Hi there,
Thanks for using HCM.
Giardia is an intestinal parasite.
This is acquired through contaminated food and water.
Clean water and hygienic food will prevent this infection.
Washing hands before handling food is very important.
These simple measures will prevent you from acquiring giardiasis again.
I hope that answers your question.

I believe I contracted Giardia when my husband and I were traveling outside of the United States. It is not our personal hygiene that worries me but that of others.
In regards to diet, should we not eat uncooked food, such as salad, vegetables and fruit if not prepared at home? What about water? Should we only drink bottled water when we are away from home?
Once someone has had this parasite, would he/she we more susceptible to a recurrence?
