Brief Answer:
Avoid cold, known alergens, check for sinusitis, see doctor, antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I understand this could be very disturbing. Do you have any diagnosed history of chronic rhinitis, nasal polyps, asthma or sinusitis? These conditions could explain the drainage.

The foul smelling taste is a clear indication of a bacterial infection, which needs to be properly identified and treated. Chronic rhinitis and chronic sinusitis could be complicated with pus collection (bad smell). The danger is these continuous drainage could spread to other areas of the body. Sinuses can infect the brain, and cases of sinusitis causing meningitis and at times brain abscess are not rare. Rarely, if swallowed inappropriately, airways might be infected and the conditions could lead to lung infections.

Although I do not think you are there, so not to worry.

I suggest a proper consultation of an ENT specialst to rule out chronic rhinitis, nasal polyps or sinusitis. Fluticasone could be helpful , but coupled with the fact that you experience a horrible taste, an infection needs to be ruled out, and an antibiotic prescribed. In case you have recurrent headaches at times one sided, doing special facial and para-nasal sinuses X-rays could be needed to rule out sinusitis. Depending on the findings, antibiotics and steroids could be sufficient. Some cases however might require surgical drainage.

If you have a history of allergies or asthma or chronic/allergic rhinitis, topical steroids and at times oral steroids, with anti allergy drugs (anti histamines) should be carefully evaluated and prescribed by your doctor.

I suggest you consult your doctor. For now , avoid exposure to the cold, in case you have noticed something that cases nasal discharge, you need to avoid it. Recent change of environment to new areas could exacerbate such symptoms.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health. Please, do not hesitate asking any specific questions in case of need.
