Question: Hi my 3 year old girl fell really hard on the floor and hit her chin. There was some blood coming out from her mouth (I supposed she bite her lips or tongue when she fell) but the blood stop when I rinsed her mouth a few times. She has a really bad bruise on her chin and a lump has been formed and the area is quite swollen. She cried for about 15 minutes and she fell aslee. Shall I take her to the ER? Her chin is really swollen.

Brief Answer:
Due to hematoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The swelling of the chin is due to a hematoma formation in the area due to a soft tissue injury. Any bone injury is less likely.
Usually the bruising heals in about 2-3 weeks of the injury. The worry starts if sign of infection like fever, redness etc. present, and symptoms like pain, swelling increases and bruise last for more than 3 weeks. The home remedies your can follow are:
1.     I'd suggest you apply ice packs to the area for the next 24 hours (this will help limit the bleeding in the injured areas), and then switch to warm packs, which will help her body clear the bruising away. (Remember to place a dry towel between the skin and an ice pack.)
2. Give her a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory for the discomfort (e.g., ibuprofen or acetaminophen); these medications usually are well tolerated and don't interact.
I hope this answers your query.
