Suggest Remedy And Treatment For Vitamin-D3 Deficiency
Question: Hello Doc,
Can you please suggest remedy and treatment for Vitamin D3 deficiency.
The investigation for other tests are as follow:
T Score: -2.40
Serum Cancium: 8.9mg/dl
25-Hydroxy Vitamin D3: 16.29 ng/mL
Magnesium: 1.9 mg/dL
Please suggest the remedy
Can you please suggest remedy and treatment for Vitamin D3 deficiency.

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
You are having vitamin D deficiency and osteopenia. Vitamin D replacement is available.
The usual dose we give is 60,000 IU sachets or tablets weekly dose x 8 weeks followed by monthly dose x 4 months. Shall check vitamin D after 6 months.
You can increase the sun exposure.

Hello Doc,
Thanks for the quick response.
Presently I am taking tab. Alendronate 70mg. since last week( weekly once).
Can I start taking calcium XXXXXXX along with that as it is mentioned somewhere Calcium supplement lowers the effect of alendronate.
Can you please clarify and suggest what could be followed.
Or should I discontinue alendronate.
If in case need to continue alendronate as well as Cancium XXXXXXX , then how long should I take and with what frequency.

I understand your concerns.
Alendronate is given for low bone mineral density (t -2.4). You can take it along with vitamin D. The XXXXXXX I suggested you is vitamin D XXXXXXX and not calcium. Calcium will decrease the absorption of alendronate when taken together. So if you are on a calcium supplements, take it at least 30 minutes after alendronate.
Alendronate is usually given for a period of 2 years. Vitamin D supplementation - high dose is given for 6 months as I suggested in last answer. Then you have to take maintenance dose 60,000 IU every 2 months if your vitamin D levels are normal after 6 months.
