Suggest Remedy For Behaviour Problems In Children
Question: Hi,
I would like to ask a few questions about my grandchildren, firstly the oldest is 14 and still sucks his thumb.
The middle child is 12 and smells everything like a dog and acts like a vacuum clear with his head buried into the carpet and I am guessing he is smelling it. He smells everything including his fingers after going to the toilet and all food has to have a good sniffing before he will go near it and really behaves like a dog going around sniffing everything. Then there is the youngest that is 9 and is a girl that can not stop playing with her private parts. Humping the chair arms, soft toys, pillows, peoples legs bed ends or her hands and all seem to have uncontrollable blinking problems at certain times. Should I be worried? Well I am worried that all the children have behavioural problems. When I say anything to my son, all I get is this
Is normal and all kids do this.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is normal don't worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
1. Oldest one sucking thumb needs behaviour therapy. You can try anti sucking ointments like femite.
2. Sniffing is an acquired habit which is not abnormal.
Many kids do that. Medically you need to confirm if he doesn't have any nasal problems like turbinate hypertrophy or polyp which can decrease the sense of smell leading to Sniffing.
If no nasal problems don't worry. Will settle with time.
3. Problem with your third grandchild is pretty normally seen. Keep telling her repeatedly not to do so. If persistent get urine and stools tested for infection.
Wishing good health.
