Suggest Remedy For Burning Sensation In Chest After Angioplasty

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: My husband, who is 72, recently underwent an angioplasty and had a stent put in the artery around his heart. He had been experiencing a burning in his chest before and after the procedure. He took several tests, i.e. EKG, nuclear stress test, chest x-ray. The cardiologist feels this is not a cardio problem any longer and suggested seeing a gastroenterologist. He had an ultrasound and endoscopy with the gastro. He was told the results were good and that the gastro felt it was Angina. We are caught between the cardio saying it is not a cardio problem and a gastro who feels it is. We don't know what to do, and my husband is getting frustrated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Can be caused by other problems also

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

If your husband has normal nuclear stress test, ECG, endoscopy it rules out cardiac and gastro problems.
But the burning can be also caused either by chestcage, or neural or muscle problems.
I would like to ask you some questions

1. Have you noticed any connection of burning with the meal, posture
2. Does the burning sensation worsens with pressing on the chest
3. Does it worsens with physical activity
4. Is it constant during the day
5. Did you husband have similar burning sensation before the angioplasty
6. Does your husband have spine or joint problems
7. Does he have any other disease

Brief Answer:
Costochondritis and neuromuscular problems should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

Costochondritis and neuromuscular problems should be ruled out especially if complaints worsen with movement or by pressing on the chest.
I think it is a good idea to consult a vertebrologist. In case the reason remains unclear there may be need for MRI of chest cage.

Hope I could help you

Wishing a good health to your husband
