Suggest Remedy For Confusion Episodes Along With High BP

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: My Dad has had several episodes where he gets confused saying his head just doesn't feel right, his hands get tingly. His blood pressure goes up and yesterday when asked his last name he was not able to say, then he was asked who I was (his daughter) he didn't know me either. He has been hospitalized because he fell during one of these episodes. He sent through many tests and they didn't find anything. The retirement home where he lives calls 911 everytime as their protocal. So, my question to you if these episodes are TIA's can I do anything to avoid going to the hospital every time? This morning he seems the same as always, just a little more confused than normal.

Hello,

Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

Your father has episodic confusional states. The most common causes are
1. episodic delirium due to metabolic causes like hypoglycemia ( reduced sugars) or electrlyte imbalance. These are diagnosed by bloodbtests of sugars and Sr Na and Sr K . I am sure doctors might have done this.

2. Seizures. An electroencephalography can diagnose this easily.

3. TIA. Thid will require an MRI scan to diagnose this. If positive your fayher needs to be started on clopidogril and aspiring to prevent further episodse.

4. Onset of dementia. Again MRI brain is diagnostic.

Ones the diagnosis is confirmed only then the treatment can be initiated.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
