Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I have gone through your question and the report attached. I understand your concerns but don't worry. Infants show great variations in colour, consistency and frequency of poops. The reports of your baby are near normal and doesn't need any antibiotics. Some mucus and few pus cells can occur even in viral gastroenteritis episode which are quite common in this age group.
Answers to your questions are as follows:
1. Continue him on lactose free diet only if the frequency is high and the consistency is very watery. Give Racecadotril granules (10g) thrice daily for decreasing the frequency along with Zinc supplement such as Syp ZnD or Zinconia.
2. Give breastfeeding and complementary feeds if frequency is less than 10 times with semi formed poops. Avoid sugars and sweetened juices. Give bananas. Give oral rehydration therapy such as lemonade, buttermilk, ORS to prevent dehydration.
3. Continue Vitamin D. Hold Zincovit.
4. These episodes occur due infection from mouthing unhygienic items which happens in this age. So, keeping a good clean surroundings is important.
5. Start iron syrups after 7 days of complete recovery.
6. You may start calcium supplement such as Osteocalcium along with vitamin D.
7. Hold lactose containing products if frequency very high.
8. For rashes, use rashfree ointment available at medical stores.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
Lemonade without Sugar?
Calcium can be started now or after recovery?
Could you please let me know what lactose containing items should i stop? do you mean milk and sugar? can i have tea?
Could you suggest any ointment as normal diaper rash cream seems to be more itchy to my son.
I would like to know the present symptoms of your child
Detailed Answer:
Hi
To recommend you a proper plan, I need to know the following:
1. What is the frequency and consistency of poops at present
2. Tell me the duration of present symptoms
3. Is he active, alert and playful
4. How is his appetite for solids and liquid foods which you offer
5. Is there any associated fever, lethargy, pallor, bladder disturbances
6. What is his present weight and birth weight
Waiting for your reply.
Regards
2. I have observed he poops after I feed him or when he wake up in morning as I breastfeed him whole night. I have already removed milk and sweets from my diet. but I do take tea with sugar.
3. Yes.
4. His appetite is bad. only 300 ml per day with negligible solids.
5. No.
6. birth weight is 3 and current weight is 6. he will be 7 months old coming 26.
Also can I give him nestum or easum as he cannot take cerelac as it contains milk. please suggest.
Also his reports have Ph 6. what does it mean and is it safe?
No need for lactose restriction
Detailed Answer:
Your baby's health seems to be perfectly fine. This is a normal frequency of poops. It's normal for infants poops to have offensive smell and undigested particles. It happens due to immature gut function which gradually improves as the baby grows. The weight gain is good.
I would recommend you to start him on normal diet including lactose as well. No need for lactose restriction. You may give baby foods as per his choice including nesting/eastum.
Start zinc supplement such as ZnD or Zinconia (5 ml once daily for next 14 days). It gives immunity against any further diarrhoea episodes. Also, start iron supplement such as Ferronia XT ( 2.5 ML twice daily). This will improve his appetite further.
Hopefully it will be of help.
