Suggest Remedy For Dizziness And Pain Behind Eye Post Septoplasty

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: I am 35 days post Septoplasty - everything went well, and I believe that I am healed, with no complications. I am having frequent - sometimes severe dizziness, and pain behind right eye (presents like a Sinus infection). Have seen my ENT twice about this, and all he says is: "you look clear, I have no idea what it could be..." I feel worse-off than before the surgery...

Brief Answer:
Seems to be bppv/migraine/reactivation of sinusitis

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having episodic dizziness. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any nasal obstruction or post nasal drip (sinus dripping back into throat) ?

Is your dizziness aggravates with head posture or neck movements ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be BPPV (benign positional proximal vertigo) or due to migraine or due to re-activation of sinusitis.

It is least likely that post operative re -activate sinusitis causing eye pain with dizziness (symptom free for 35 days of post septoplasty procedure, completed the course of antibiotics).

I suggest the following measures, to overcome your dizziness and eye pain.

1. get an ophthalmologist opinion for any alteration of intra ocular pressures (glaucoma).

2. Blood tests-serum electrolytes, random blood sugar. BP monitoring

3. vestibular tests (to differentiate between from central/peripheral vertigo).

4. Ct scan BRAIN to see any ischemic changes or vascular abnormalities.

Kindly discuss with your treating surgeon about these investigations and ophthalmologist opinion.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks for your reply.. I had severe Post Nasal Drip prior to the surgery, but do NOT have it now. The surgery appears to have rectified this. The dizziness is new since the surgery, and is constant - regardless of head posture. One additional item is that if I sleep on my side (either side), I have alot of "frontal pressure", and I am VERY dizzy and somewhat "fuzzy" for several hours after getting up. Again, my doctors claims to have never heard of this condition, and has no idea what it could be..? (FYI: prior to the surgery, I checked all references, spoke to prior patients, etc, so my doctor was qualified, and highly recommended..)

Brief Answer:
dizziness, not related to septoplasty

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

At 50 years of age, there are several causes for dizziness. I do not think, your surgery has caused this dizziness. Constant dizziness could be due to inner ear infection (labrynthitis) or migraine.

Kindly evaluate with the investigations, what I have already mentioned.

All the best. Take care.
