Suggest Remedy For Dizziness While Treating Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy

Posted on Wed, 13 Jan 2016
Question: I had been diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy in 2010. I am on Medication since then. Currently on Levera XR 500 once before sleep. I am 116Kg and 193cm height. Since 2010, I had seizure only twice, once during the very first time before diagnosis and other when I missed my tablet a day. My MRI scans are normal. EEG shows occasional discharges as per my neurologist. My current problem is I suddenly feel dizzy when I stand after sitting for long time, after looking at XXXXXXX screen for around 10,15 mins , or when I walk for long distance. Then once I sit down for some time , dizziness will go off. And I became fear of heights for past 4 years. Before my epileptic attack, I never used to be afraid of heights and I even used to go in rides like roller coaster etc., But now I am afraid of rides, heights .. Please advise me how to overcome the fears and also the reason for my sudden dizziness and how to avoid it completely. Thanks a lot in advance.

Brief Answer:
Take drugs and measures as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
First the drug for juvenile myoclonic epilepsy is not appropriate according to your body weight. Atleast 500 mg bd should be taken.
The postural dizziness needs to be evaluated for low blood pressure or postural drop in blood pressure. This is not related to JME.
Fear may be psychological and need to be treated with anxiolytics like clonazepam.
Get your blood pressure measured, get some investigation like blood sugar, serum sodium, potassium.
Don't rise suddenly. Move your foot and leg for 1 min while standing from sitting or supine position.
Hope you found the answer helpful

Even my neurologist told that the tablet that he prescribed currently to me is less than what is required for my body weight but he told as my seizure has been in control in this drug, he doesn't want me to gain more weight due to side effects and thats why he gave me only 750mg once a day (sorry I mentioned 500mg wrongly). Also I am taking Bensar 20mg tablet every morning as per his advise. My age is 28. My blood pressure is not high always. It is only rare but I am not sure if I need to take Bensar 20 daily. Is it due to that I am getting dizziness?
