Suggest Remedy For Frequent Urination After Prostate Removal

Question: I had my prostate removed last September and the psa a few months ago was 0.01. However, while I urinate about every 3-4 hours during the day at night time I get up 4-5 times to urinate. I am looking for suggestions so that I can empty my bladder and overcome some of the get ups. I lost my wife on 10 May and on 19 May I was prescribed Temazepam 10 mg to try and make me sleep. I took 2 last night with two along with two Flomaxtra but no difference
Brief Answer:
Please provide more information
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
please clarify the following:
- why was your prostate removed? Did you have cancer or was it benign prostatic hyperplasia?
- did they remove it completely?
- do you take any other drugs? Have you changed your regimen recently?
- do you have other medical conditions like kidney disease or diabetes?
- have you done an ultrasound scan recently (after you've had the symptoms)?
Please note that flomaxtra needs at least a few days to act at its full potential so taking it for a couple of days is not enough to judge its effectiveness.
Kind Regards!

- why was your prostate removed? Did you have cancer or was it benign prostatic hyperplasia? - did they remove it completely? removed completely because a biopsy indicated it was cancerous
- do you take any other drugs? Have you changed your regimen recently? No change except for grief caused by the death of my wife with cancer on 10 May 2015. Yes Avapro 30 mg which keeps my bp 120/80
- do you have other medical conditions like kidney disease or diabetes? none
- have you done an ultrasound scan recently (after you've had the symptoms)? no - have to have a psa blood test on 11 08 15. I will try two flomaxtratry tonight and for a few more nights. I see the GP next Monday again.

Brief Answer:
could be related to heart or kidney problems
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Frequent urination at night is often related to heart failure or chronic kidney disease. Hints to identify these conditions include increased creatinine and swelling of the legs and ankles during the day that gets better when lying down.
A rare side effect of prostate removal is scarring of the urethra which may impair urine flow but it should have made a difference in day time urination too.
If none of the above apply to you then it could be a 'normal' (or expected) consequence of aging which results in impaired release of the antidiuretic hormone and causes night time urination. If you don't have problems with your electrolytes (the sodium in particular) then there are treatment options for this condition but your doctor should decide whether they are applicable to you or not.
I hope I've helped!
