Suggest Remedy For Headaches And Fluid In Ear

Posted on Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Question: I have been right sided headaches and fluid in that same ear for over a year now.THe fluid has actually been there for many years, over 10, every time I see a doctor and think I have an ear infection, all they say is there is fluid in there but no infection. The headaches are the worst at night and wake me up many nights. Two years ago I had a workup at that time I was dizzy a lot, not so much now. I had an MRI and MRA and they were normal. I am at my wits end, the headaches are virtually every night and now dull during the day too. I am going to another ENT the end of the month.

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having allergy leading to fluid in ear .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having allergy leading to fluid in ear . Right side headache may be because of congestion , fluid in ear or due to Migraine .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
consult ENT specialist & do investigation like Audiometry & Impedance . It will conform fluid in ear & any hearing loss .

My treatment plan for you will be ,
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray or rinse thrice daily,
oral antibiotic ,
paracetamol for headache &
Combination Steroid nasal spray with antihistamine 2 puff each nostril twice daily.

Above treatment plan will decrease fluid in ear & also headache .
If fluid doesn't not decrease i would consider you for grommet insertion in ear to remove fluid & prevent recollection .

Here my suggestion is that you should consult another ENT doctor for thorough examination, necessary investigations and treatment.

Hope it is helpful to you . If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
One of the cause for unresolved fluid in ear is infection .

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up query.

One of the cause for unresolved otitis media with fluid (Fluid in Ear) is subclinical infection .
Hence i will give oral antibiotic before going for surgical procedure .
