Suggest Remedy For Lower Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jan 2015
Question: I am having lower abdominal pain. Comes and goes. More uncomfortable than painful but is becoming a concern. Almost like gas pains, or a hernia type pain, but it is low and bilateral and seems better after making a bowel movement. I am a very healthy active 67 year old male, eating well and exercising regularly from biking to weights. The pains are becoming more frequent and know it is time to look for answers. I drink a lot of water (could drink more) and have at least two - three BM's day. When the pains come I think I need to have a BM to get rid of the pressure and sometimes it doesn't want to come easily although I don't consider myself constipated. I am not vegetarian although I eat more fruits and vegies than I do meat. And when I eat meat it is either fish (Salmon) or turkey. I take whole food fruit and vegie supplements, Fish Oil, Vitamin D3, Vit. B complex, and probiotics. I eat a lot of nuts and seeds, (Chia, pumpkin, sunflower) and use ground flax seed on cereals and smoothies. I avoid processed foods and cautious with preservatives. Have not yet had a colonoscopy but beginning to think about it. Any ideas or suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Get Ultrasound abdomen and Colonoscopy done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Good to hear your healthy food habits and near normal bowel movements.
If you are having pain then I suggest you seek an appointment with your GP or a Surgeon who can examine you and at least get an Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis done. It would be better to get it done and will give some basic information to guide your surgeon whether to do any other investigation or not. Colonoscopy also as a screening investigation would be good and should be done some time near the age of 60.
Your complaints dont sound like anything would be seriously wrong but it would be better to get the investigations done to be sure and they would be like a Screening test for future.
So, I suggest you see a Surgeon and get both the investigations done and do let us know if we can advice you any further to help with your queries.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
