Suggest Remedy For Lower Back Pain After Spinal Fusion

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: In 2013 I had a spinal fusion on L4-L5. Since then I have had severe lower back pain sometimes crippling, I can't do normal everyday activities. I recently had an MRI and this is the results.

L1-L2 Small posterior disc ostephyte complex without central canal stenosis or neural foraminal narrowing.

L2-L3 2mm retrolisthesis of L2 on L3, with small posterior disc bulge. No central canal stenosis or neural foraminal narrowing. Mild bilateral facet arthosis and small bilateral facet joint effusions.

L3-L4 Small posterior disc bulge and mild bilateral facet and ligamentous hypertrophy.

L4-L5 No recurrent or residual central canal stenosis or neural foraminal narrowing after discectomy and posterior fusion.

L5-S1 Small posterior disc bulge extending toward the neural foramina. No central canal stenosis. Mild right neural foraminal narrowing.

My doctor says she can't tell a definitative reason for my back pain. My pain is around the L5-S1. I can't walk for more than 10 minutes at a time. I can't stand for more than 10 minutes. Household chores like sweeping and vacuuming brings pain that I can't do anything for a couple of days. So what does all this mean?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have read your query.

Facet joint arthritis can lead to pain in your case.
There is no major disc bulge or canal stenosis so no need for surgery at this moment.
You may get relief with epidural steroid shot
core stabilizing exercise along with physiotherapy like IFT And matrix therapy may help you.

You should focus on spine extension exercises.
Neurotropic medication like pregabalin and methylcobalamine can be started consulting your doctor.
Many of my patients get relief with yoga and pranayama, and XXXXXXX XXXXXXX so you can also start that.
I hope I have answered your questions. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us. I will be happy to answer. Take care.

Brief Answer:
Yes this problem is fixable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query.

Yes this problem is fixable.
There is no role of heredity so do not co relate with disease of your mother.

You may get relief with epidural steroid shot.

Canal narrowing can lead to such symptoms.
You may need to increase canal space by exercises and physiotherapy.

If no relief then you may need further surgery with decompression and fixation.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
