Brief Answer:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care questions.

Last night you were awoken with both your hands tingling. Was all the hand tingling or only a portion of the hand. The most common cause of hand tingling that wakes a person at night is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is when the nerves going into the hand is compressed during sleep. The compression causes the nerve to tingle. This can be stopped at night by wearing a carpal tunnel splints. You can get these splints at any pharmacy. I also recommend using a NSAID like ibuprofen or aleve everyday fro the next 2-4 weeks. I also recommend that you see your medical provider to perform the proper testing to determine if you truly have Carpal tunnel syndrome.

This is not a dangerous situation but can be very discomforting.

In summary
1 Carpal tunnel syndrome
2. Use carpal tunnel splints
3. Use NSAIDs like ibuprofen or Aleve
4. See your doctor for further diagnosis and treatment options

I hope this answers your question. Please contact me again if you any further questions or have any additional information in your case.

Thank you for your quick response. This information I have requested for my boss, who can be a bit stubborn. Could this issue be an indication of any heart or stroke issues? He is very tired from dealing with our terrible storms and there are a lot of issues at the business right now. I am trying to get him to go to emergency. Should I continue this course? Thanks again. Brief Answer:
Not a stroke

Detailed Answer:
This is most definitely not a stroke. A stroke will only happen on one side of the body or the other. A stroke will never affect both sides at the same time.

Your husbands stress is definitely contributing to his symptoms. Anxiety can cause tingling of the hands face lips and head. Along with dizziness and shortness of breath. To help with his anxiety I recommend that he start a good regular exercise program of walking daily and doing meditation. For my patients I also recommend reading and completing a handbook on anxiety. I recommend a book The Anxiety and Phobia Handbook. I use this with my patients and they get good results with reduction in their anxiety

In Summary
1. Anxiety very common
2. Not a stroke at all
3. Reduce anxiety
4. Meditation and regular exercise
5. Read and complete The anxiety and phobia handbook

I hope this answers your question. Please contact me again if you any further questions or have any additional information in your case.
