Suggest Remedy For Palpitations When Under Stress
Question: Hi I get occasional pacs according to my Holter monitor 4 months ago. I also had 15 pvcs in 48 hours. My heart was structurally normal and I passed both stress tests. Lately I have been stressed more than usual as I am opening a new restaurant. Tonight when I went to rest on the couch I was getting much more etopic beats. Sometimes 8-10 per minute and they have lasted approximately 3 hours. I do not have any other symptoms just the feeling of the pacs. I do suffer from anxiety however I am very calm right now and trying not to worry

Hi XXXX!
Once again I read your query and understood your concerns.
You are opening a new restaurant and this is a new challenge for you and is accompanied with an increased level of adrenaline and stress levels.
The increased adrenaline and stress levels is manifested with the increasing number of palpitations i.e. is causing your symptoms.
The best way to deal with your symptoms is to stay calm and don't worry about them (as you're already doing ). Moreover I would recommend to take chamomile tea to help you relax further.
Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

Doctor my cardiologist says my heart is very healthy. Also several doctors here at Healthcare magic tell me the same. Everyone says that pacs are harmless. I have read in several forums that frequent Pacs over 200 per day are a precursor for afib. They say there are several studies that prove this. Is this accurate? I'm not sure if that is true. I know some people who have lived with pacs or pvcs for years and had over 5000 per day. However most people complain of pvcs. Mine are mostly PACS

Hi back,
What you have read about the fact that PACs are a precursor of atrial fibrillation is true in patients with underlying disease that normally progress to atrial fibrillation (including valvular heart disease, heart failure, hyperthyroidism etc.).
In your case your heart is normal and the PACs aren't a precursor of atrial fibrillation and you shouldn't worry about that.

Thanks doctor. I just got worried because last night while resting the pacs started pretty bad. 10-12 per minute. Also I was getting 3 or 4 in a row. This lasted over an hour. Is this still normal? Why do they happen out of the blue and so furious?

Hi back,
You shouldn't worry about PACs as long as your heart is normal. It's normal to have PACs 10-12 per minute (even 3-4 in a row) for a couple of hours especially if you are going to open a new restaurant.
The opening of a new restorant is a new challenge that increase your anxiety and adrenaline levels, causing more than usual PACs.
Wish you good luck!

Doctor I have some Ativan at home. Is that safe to take for my heart or can it cause more problems? I have .5mg tablets. Also you could be right it could have been more bigemy than triplets. In either case is it still benign? It lasted approximately an hour of pacs and then calmed down and I felt ok besides being anxious about the feeling. If PACS are benign are short runs also benign? I called my cardiologist today but he insisted again that my heart was healthy and I do not need a holter at this time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
You can safely take Ativan 5 mg one quarter of the tablet, it will help to relieve your anxiety and symptoms.
You shouldn't worry about PACs even if they are two in a row, or if they are in bigeminy, because they will remain always benign. As long as your heart is normal you shouldn't worry about anything.
Wish you health!
