Suggest Remedy For Patellar Dislocation After Using Prosthetic Limb
Question: Hi Sir,
I am XXXXXXX working as software engineer. I used to wear the artificial leg limb for the past 15 years. Recently i got patella dislocation. When i consulted my private doctor, He suggested not to wear my artificial limb as it is making knee leg weak. when i wear my leg, i used to tie up it with belt just above knee. That is making my leg very thin day by day and weak. But problem is that leg became part of my left which i can not leave now.
Can you please suggest me that i could avoid this problem(patella dislocation) without giving up my artificial leg.(i.e any alternative leg without belt that i can wear, any other good leg wearing techniques).
Thanks,
xXXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can be benefitted by Physiotherapy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query
I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. I will not advise you to avoid wearing of artificial leg limb if you can not walk without it. You can regularly do excercises of this leg muscles to avoid wasting of your muscles. This seems to me as suitable solution. Physiotherapy can help you. I think all artificial leg limb are available with straps or something like that to hold on limb. You can discuss with your doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Hi Sir,
Thank you for reply. I believe that i got solution and will proceed with exercises to strengthen my leg muscles.
Apart from that may i know answer for below questions.
what kind of precautions that i can take to make my below knee stump healthy up to life time. For example my stump skin became very black as it always reside inside the foot and does not get air in day time. What happens if consistently wear it up to 60 years(in case if i live up to there..-:).

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
You can wear prosthesis only during walking.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
You can remove the prosthesis ( artificial limb)whenever you are not needing it i.e. not walking. You can wear it upto whatever age but it is important that when prosthesis wear and tears ( become old) i.e. whenever inner rubber linings of prosthesis become damaged, you are advised to change it. XXXXXXX foot is quite comfortable and I advise you to continue with it as far as comfort is concerned. I doesn't know artificial limb fitting centre of your area.
Everything else already discussed.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
