Question: Hello,
I am 47 and very good health. I got full check up last year and no problems at all. I have not been sick at all in 2 years. I was driving my car on Thursday and for about 10-15 seconds I thought I might pass out. I didn't feel ill and felt fine after, just felt a little tired during the day not my usual appetite. After a few hours I grabbed a burrito ate it quickly then took a nap. when I woke up about 45 min later I was really dizzy and could barely stand and very nauseous. Thought i had food poisoning. I never threw up although felt like it, but just couldn't stand. I slept all night. Next morning Friday I felt much better but still dizzy and nauseous. When lie down I'm ok. But as soon as I get on my feet I feel dizzy and nauseous. Normally I wouldn't worry but my mom died of a stroke and had her first TIA in her 40s. My father has vertigo and heart disease. I still feel the same now but way better than THursday. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
symptoms in a personal with strong family history of strokes

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, I must say here, that you have put the history very nicely together, where you have mentioned the ages of the parents when they had to face these events because that information is real important. Based on the family history you have shared, it is quite possible for you have increased tendency to develop clots and thrombus inside vessels, as both heart and stroke events have been caused by the same in your parents, unfortunately.

Now, as your history is suggesting, any such event with dizziness, vertigo, nausea or generalised weakness needs extensive work up and can't be taken lightly.

For this event, if symptoms persist you need to visit your GP and get routine blood screenings done along with CT brain or carotid doppler done.

Such strong family history also needs to be worked out for some Familial conditions, where blood has increased tendency of developing clots. Other conditions which may precipitate this include few like antiphospholipid syndrome, familial dyslipidemias and many more.

Though you need not to worry much, bacause if you are involved in your health such keenly, there are ways to prevent such events so even apart from these symptoms, you may be needed to have regular blood screenings for lipid profile, BSR, frequent BP monitoring, avoiding smoking, decreasing alcohol, adding brisk walks, regular ECGs preferably 6 monthly. A little effort will help you with proper prevention from such events as prevention is much better than cure.

Meanwhile for such symptoms you can use stemetil or sec after discussing with your GP.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
