Suggest Remedy For Pills Getting Stuck In Throat

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: Hi. I am having problems with pills and capsules getting stuck about half way down to my stomach. If I take them before I go to bed, it isn't long before I feel them coming into my throat. Drinking doesn't help, eating does but the effect stays awhile. My Aunt had a hiatal (sp?) hernia, could that be what I have?

Brief Answer:
Hiatal hernia or other condition best to be ruled out by gastroskopy

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

this can be caused through hiatal hernia. However, also other esophageal conditions like so called diverticles or a so called achalasia (contracture of lower esophageal muscles) could be the cause.

If you were my patient, a gastroskopy would be my first suggestion. Additionally there is special x ray examinations available where one can examine the swallow process.

Once the cause is found specific treatment can follow.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
