Question: genital area gets all of a sudden very itchy ( this has happened several times). i try not to scratch but due to work environment chaffing. as well i am guessing when sleeping involuntarily scratching. leads to skin on penis and scrotum becoming raw. then turns into either puss and scabbing. how do i protect to allow to heal? I don't know if this is an allergic reaction to something or not. I haven't changed anything in my daily routine. Any idea on what maybe causing said ailments.

Duration of illness: how long this has been occurring is about 10 or so years, it has happened about 5 or 6 times now with the most current time being present. When it happens the itching last for about 7 days give or take 2 days. If the affected area is not itched or rubbed against the itching will dissipate and the skin is fine.

Exact areas: Only areas that are affected are the penis, scrotum, and sometimes the area between the scrotum and anus. Strictly those areas though it never goes to the legs or upper groin area.

Pattern of itching: is at all times night and day. After about a week it goes away. the itching feeling only becomes unbearable when it is brushed against roughly or touched then i want to itch the living crap out of it but have to resist because i know the consequence.

Any new products used on the affected skin: Not to my knowledge same products i have used for years.

Any family history: None that is known

diabetic Status: I am not Diabetic

Problem stationary or progressing: I think stationary. Can you please explain what you are looking for.

Any aggravating factors: Not that i know of, again my daily routine has not changed in years. I am a mechanic and work on automobiles, but i clean my hands before i touch down there or i wear gloves.

Hi

Welcome with fresh details.
I am in a better position now to offer you additional suggestions on resolving the problem.

While I asked about the stationary/progressive course, I intended to have an insight into whether it could be some infection. In our science, every detail is important from the point of view of proper management.

As suggested few hours back, please carry on with the measures detailed. For the first few days, even if the relief may be slight, still one needs to have patience and self restraint. The lesser one touches the affected area, the faster is the likelihood of recovery. The purpose of whole exercise is to disrupt the itch-scratch cycle.

To help in itch control, the dose of Anti-allergics can be adjusted upwards but one should first ensure that there is no drowsiness after consuming medications of this group because that can interfere with one's alertness and profession. Not everyone gets it, but let us stay safe.

Initially, one may apply cream thrice a day or additional number of times but it gradually needs to be tapered down.

I am sure that problem will be helped by following the steps above.

Best wishes.
