Question: Hi
My mom has been suffering from shoulder pain, she was not able to rotate her shoulder.
We have consulted a doctor in XXXXXXX and they diagnosed it is a frozen shoulder. She has taken physiotherapy session and that helped her a bit.

The pain didn't go completely. She is still having the shoulder pain 8-9 out of 10.

She came to USA recently and I have consulted a doctor and she has been diagonsed as rotater cuff. None of the doctors have taken any x-rays nor scans.

USA doctors have prescribed a pain killer, muscle relaxation
Nabumeton 500 mg and metaxalone 800 mg..She relived from pain temporarily and she got the pain back when she stopped the medication.

doctor advised her on the steroids for 6 days
methylprednisolone 4 mg

The pain still didn't go away completely..She is better and pain is at 7/10.

I am wondering what shld be my next steps

Brief Answer:
MRI can be done to distinguish.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Both the condition may be possible. Frozen shoulder is adhesive capsulitis leading to adhesion of capsule. Its treatment is mobilisation excercises of shoulder and analgesic. Rotation cuff injury may be there. In both condition there is improvement by steroids. As both conditions are similar clinically. So both conditions can be there, MRI will be suitable investigation to distinguish between the two. If even passive movements of shoulder are restricted I personally feel that it is frozen shoulder. Treatment of it is mobilisation excercises and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
