Question: i fell on Sunday night and got a big bump over my left eye. I put ice on the swelling and it went down some. Monday afternoon the eye is all purple top and bottom and it appears nose is broken. Now there's a faint reddish purple line like eye liner over top lid.

Brief Answer:
This will resolve over 7-10 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
The purple color is because of collection of blood under the layers of eyelid. This occurs in case of any injury above the level of the eye. This occurs because of natural down flow with gravity. This is called as ecchymosis.
This will resolve over 1-2 weeks as the blood gets absorbed.
Applying cold compression will provide symptomatic relief.

If you are having pain you need examination by your doctor to rule out any fracture involving the underlying bones.
Otherwise no need to be worried you will be fine.

Hope this answers your question.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
